Group Stitching Mantra: A Trans-Craft Experience. 2-4 pm on Saturday, August 22. Hi everyone.

I was away on vacation for the past few weeks and wasn’t able to post. I came back to find no comments on my past posts however, which is making me a little concerned. Would be wonderful if you could participate by sharing and providing feedback on the show.

Hello. I have been away and unable to post for a while. Here are a few pics from the opening on June 19. Above, is an image of me and Lee with the artists who came into Greensboro to create work for the show – from left to right: Nina Katchadourian, me, Darren O’Donnell, San Keller (it is his work, Who Falls Asleep First, that we are sitting on) and Lee Walton.

Below is a picture of San’s work in the gallery. Viewers are invited to lie down on the bed and try to go to sleep with San.

A warm thanks to everyone (especially all of the artists and musicians) who participated in the opening ceremonies for Our Subject is You on June 19. Your involvement helped to make this event, and the show, truly unique. The performances by the Dega musicians and dancers were fantastic and it was wonderful to meet various members of that community. Nina Katchadourian’s performance with Mike Hogewood was equally amazing! We sought to create a unique live experience that celebrated the vibrancy of our community and I think that goal was achieved !

Our Subject is You Opens to the Public

Today’s the big day. The exhibition is installed, the lights are up, the stage is set, the beer is iced.

We are so excited ! Can’t wait to see how everyone reacts to the work and the performances we have planned. Should be a good night.

2 Days to go

Today, San Keller and Darren O’Donnell will be arriving into Greensboro. Lee Walton, I and the Weatherspoon staff have been very busy putting things together for the show. So far we’ve got Erwin Wurm, Sherri Lynn Wood and Steve Lambert’s work pretty well set up. Still have to work a few things out but it is looking good!

San is coming in from Zurich via NYC. He is going to be making a bed cover and finding a bed to sleep in this afternoon. George Scheer at Elsewhere on S. Elm has generously offered to allow San to borrow material from the stock there, and even has offered to help make the cover and organize the bed. If all goes well, San will be sleeping (and filming) at the museum tomorrow.

Darren is coming in from Toronto. He will start his initial meetings with the Dega community in Greensboro. The Degas are the indigenous people of Vietnam who were caught in the crossfire during the war in the 1960s and 70s. A little known fact is that Greensboro has the largest population of Degas outside of Vietnam. Darren will be working mostly with the Montagnard/Dega Association. Have to pick up a bike for him later today so that he can get around town.

Nina arrives tomorrow.
